1 – Strong Laois links to Donegal footballer seeking All Ireland success

One small corner of Laois had a particular interest in the All Ireland football final last Sunday when Donegal and Kerry did battle in Croke Park.

Star Donegal midfielder Michael Langan has strong roots in Laois, through his mother Mary (nee Comerford).

2 – Sadness in Portlaoise following passing of Emyln O’Reilly at just 50 years of age

There is a tremendous sense of shock and sadness in Portlaoise and the wider community following the passing of well-known figure Emyln O’Reilly.

Mr O’Reilly passed away at just 50 years of age after a short illness.

3 – Sadness at death of Julie Quinn, long-time highly-respected administrator in Leinster GAA

This week also marked the passing of Julie Quinn from Portlaoise, a long-time, highly-respected administrator in Leinster GAA, a role she filled for almost 40 years.

She was one of the key full-time staff in Leinster GAA’s headquarters in Portlaoise and was known across the province within the GAA community for her professionalism, efficiency and decency.

4 – Draws made for Round 2 of Laois SFC and IFC

Portlaoise and St Joseph’s will meet in Round 2 of this year’s Laois SFC, while Portarlington take on Graiguecullen in what is a repeat of last year’s semi-final.

They would appear to be the pick of the fixtures as the draw was made after last weekend’s action in O’Moore Park.

5 – New management teams set to be appointed for Laois minor hurlers and footballers

Brendan Phelan from The Harps and Dave McGrath from Arles-Killeen are set to be appointed as the new Laois minor hurling and football managers respectively for the 2026 season.

Both are currently over the corresponding Laois U-16 teams and have come up through the system at underage county level.

6 – McNulty and Fitzgerald set to return as Laois managers for the 2026 season

Justin McNulty and Tommy Fitzgerald are set to return as Laois senior football and hurling managers respectively for the 2026 season.

Their re-appointments were put forward at last week’s Laois GAA executive meeting and were officially rubber-stamped by the clubs at the full county board meeting.

7 – Laois duo claim double American hurling championship glory with Tipperary San Francisco

Two Laois players were celebrating on the double recently as they claimed hurling championship glory in America.

Rosenallis’ Donnchadh Hartnett and James Duggan of The Harps made waves across the water this summer.

There’s nothing that makes a local community prouder than to have one of their own representing the county in Croke Park.

On Sunday, as the Laois ladies football team go in search of All Ireland intermediate glory, there will be three of the starting Laois team from Ballinakill.

10 – Laois SFC: 10 clubs represented our of first team of the week for 2025

The Laois Shopping Centre SFC got underway last week with all 16 teams now up and running.

LaoisToday have selected the players who impressed the most from Round 1 and ten clubs are represented.
