Rugby: Laois player selected for Ireland Women’s World Cup squad

The Ireland rugby squad for the 2025 Women’s World Cup has been announced and a Laois woman is among them.

Former Portlaoise RFC forward Eimear Corri-Fallon has been named in the 34-player squad.

Corri-Fallon, who has been capped six times for Ireland, represents Leinster and Blackrock RFC.

The call-up completes a remarkable recovery from the Laois woman who missed a year of rugby.

She was selected at second row in a warm up game against Scotland last weekend and did enough to earn her place.

Corri is a doctor at Tallaght University Hospital having graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons.

She was educated at Scoil Chríost Rí, Portlaoise, before going on to study Sports Science and Health at Dublin City University.

Corri began her rugby career with Portlaoise RFC but left Togher to join Blackrock College, where she won the AIL Division 1 in 2023.

The second row star was called into the Leinster squad where she won the 2023 and 2024 Interprovincial titles.

2023 saw Corri earn her first call-up to the Ireland senior women’s team to take part in the WX5 series.

Corri made her debut in Dubai a win over Kazakhstan and went on to play in the victories over Columia and Spain as Ireland left the UAE as champions.

The Portlaoise lock was selected for the Ireland squad in last year’s 6 Nations where she made her debut in the competition against Italy to win her fourth international cap.

Ireland begin their campaign on Sunday, August 24, against Japan before facing Spain and New Zealand in subsequent games.
