Electric Picnic coverage is brought to you in association with Ramsbottom’s Portlaoise
Electric Picnic have announced the line up for Hazelwood – and there will be plenty of local interest in it.
Stradbally Community Choir have been confirmed as one of the main acts on the line up.
The choir came together last year and had their first official performance before Christmas in the the Sacred Heart Church.
On the night, 100 men and women appeared on the altar in front of a packed church.
Since then, the choir performed at the official launch of the Timahoe Male Choir’s CD in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel in February.
They performed at ‘Timahoe’s Got Talent’ in March and sang again in the church on St Patrick’s Day.
They then headed for the Greenfields Festival in Athy where they sang on the main stage.
Their most recent performances were a sell out show in Kavanagh’s in aid of Kolbe Special School and at Dunne’s Pub for the Annual Steam Rally in August.
There will be further Laois interest in Hazelwood as the winners of Electric Youth – a competition which is being run presently – will also perform.
Liam O’Connor, who holds the Guinness Record for the fastest fingers on an accordion, is among the main acts on the stage.
Misleor, who will be showcasing music from Ireland’s Travelling Community, are also set to play.
Sacred Sites, Julie Goo, An Galar Dub, Rageire, The Alcove – Kiss my Grass, Electric Youth, Cahercalla Rebellion, Aine Deane, Coscan Fogues, Strive Theatre, The Crows Old Gold and DJ Nemo are also on the list.
Picnickers are invited to get lost in the Hazelwood Afterdark, where they will be spellbound by songs and stories as Gaeilge.
After fall of dark, bilingual bands and musicians of every genre will enchant the crowds with music – from Éire agus Chulainn’s traditional offering to Dysania’s “bog-rock”, and from IMLÉ’s hip-hop to Earthmover’s post-rock shoegaze. Across the weekend musicians such as John Spillane, Bláithín Mhic Chana and Piarais Ó Lorcáin, Lisa Morray, Jessie and the Veil, Lost West, Earthmover, Little Kings, IMLÉ, Dysania, Fianna Bána, DJ Ferdilicious, and Éire agus Chulainn will take to the gorgeous stage nestled in the festival’s leafy forest.
