Laois Ladies SFC: Brilliant Ballyroan make it two championship wins from two

Ballyroan 4-17 Shanahoe 1-4
Laois Ladies SFC Round 2

Ballyroan made it two wins from two as they easily brushed aside the challenge of Shanahoe in Ballacolla last night.

Four goals helped them run out convincing 22 point winners as they proved far too strong for their opponents.

Ballyroan came into the game having defeated Timahoe in the opening round by two points and this result puts them in a strong position.

Shanahoe were well beaten by St Conleth’s in their first game but are still alive in the championship as Timahoe also lost last night.

That means that the final round of games will determine the semi final, quarter final and relegation final places.

Ballyroan host St Conleth’s on September 6 where the winning will take the semi final spot and the loser the quarter final.

While Shanahoe travel to Timahoe two days earlier where the loser will end up in the relegation playoff and the winner will go into the quarter finals.

This game was over as a contest by half time as Ballyroan raced into a big lead.

Mary Griffin kicked two points in the first half but they were Shanahoe’s only scores and the last of them was in the 16th minute.

That was after Ballyroan had made a blistering start as midfielder Faye McEvoy scored the first of four goals on the night.

Their second goal arrived just before half time as Rachel Fitzgerald’s shot caused panic and a penalty was awarded.

Kate Whelan made no mistake from the spot as Ballyroan led 2-8 to 0-2.

Mary Griffin kept going for Shanahoe with two more points and Isabel Finaly scored a goal after great work from Mary Fitzpatrick.

But goals from Laoise Dunne and Aideen Gee ensured that the points headed back to Ballyroan.
