Electric Picnic coverage is brought to you in association with Ramsbottom’s Portlaoise
Killeshin GAA are around €15,000 richer following a genius fundraiser that their members carried out last weekend.
They were out at the Electric Picnic music festival where they collected almost 70,000 empty cans and bottles.
The club partnered up with Electric Picnic and Re-turn to organise the collection, with cans and bottles bearing the correct logo/barcode worth between 15 and 25 cents apiece.
This was all done through the Deposit Return Scheme which was introduced last year.
Chairman Paul Brennan thanked all of the volunteers who helped make the fundraiser such a success.
He said: “After three hard days, I’d like to thank everybody for making the fundraiser a success.
“Everyone in Electric Picnic, everyone in Re-turn and mostly all the revellers at the Picnic.
“We managed to gather over 70,000 cans over the three days which is fantastic.
“We are really proud and I want to thank everyone who donated cans to us.
“The money raised will go towards some very good causes in our club.”
Re-turn also congratulated all in Killeshin for their efforts.
They said: “A massive thank you back to you and your incredible volunteers! 70,000 cans collected is an amazing achievement!
“Together, we’re showing the power of community and sustainability at Electric Picnic. Already looking forward to next year!”
