Laois will proudly host an Alzheimer’s Memory Walk this year as part of the nationwide Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. taking place on Sunday, September 21, in honour of World Alzheimer’s Day.
The Laois event will be held at Ballyroan Abbey GAA, with the community gathering at the GAA grounds before the walk begins at 11am.
Families, friends, and neighbours will walk side by side in solidarity with the 64,000 people living with dementia in Ireland—and in remembrance of those sadly no longer with us.
Now in its sixth year, the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, supported by Aviva is more than a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of connection, compassion, and community.
In 2024, nearly 3,500 walkers across Ireland raised over €150,000 to support vital services including daycare, support groups, family carer training, social clubs, memory cafés, and the ASI National Helpline.
Local Champion for Laois, Grainne Roche-Duff, is leading the charge and encouraging everyone to take part.

Participants can choose between a 2km or 3km route, making the walk accessible and enjoyable for all ages and abilities.
With nearly 40 events taking place across Ireland, the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk supported by Aviva is a powerful reminder of the strength found in community.
Every step taken helps raise awareness and funds for essential dementia supports.
