Laois GAA have ordered that the Premier IHC quarter final between Rathdowney-Errill and Colt-Shanahoe be replayed.
The original fixture took place in Trumera on Friday and the full time whistle was blown before the game entered the 58th minute.
When referee Patrick Phelan signalled for full time, Rathdowney-Errill led by 2-22 to 1-15 – ten points.
However, as the full allotted time had not been played, Colt-Shanahoe lodged an appeal.
That was heard last night and Laois GAA have deemed that the match should be replayed on Sunday in full.
A venue for this has not been confirmed and it is also still possible that Rathdowney-Errill may appeal this outcome – as they have three days to do this.
As well as the original fixture being blown up. there was also a considerable stoppage in the second half as Paddy Hassett was treated for an injury midway through the second half.
All told, there could well have been five minutes more due to be played.
This is not the first time that this Rathdowney-Errill team have been embroiled in controversy through no fault of their own.
Back in 2023, confusion over the score saw their quarter final against Clonaslee-St Manman’s have to be replayed.
Coincidentally, referee Patrick Phelan was also the man in the middle that day when he initially awarded the win to Clonaslee-St Manman’s but then noted an error where he had awarded them one point too many and one too few to Rathdowney-Errill.
After the first replay was abandoned due to a serious injury, Rathdowney-Errill won at the third attempt to reach the semi finals where they were eliminated by Portlaoise.
Whoever eventually comes through this quarter final is scheduled to play Mountmellick in the semi final on Saturday September 20 in Trumera.
