Clonaslee Show cancelled amid fears of weekend washout

The poor weather forecast for the weekend has claimed its first victim with the news that the Clonaslee Show has been cancelled.

The long-running and hugely popular agricultural show was due to go ahead in Clonaslee tomorrow (Sunday) for the 71st time.

However, a decision was made on Friday night to cancel the event given the volume of rain that has fallen and is forecast to fall.

With the show relying on the goodwill of local farmers to provide fields for parking, returning that land in poor condition was a major consideration.

“Clonaslee Show committee have come to the decision to cancel the show due to bad weather and health and safety issues regarding parking in this bad weather,” said a statement from the local organisers.

“The raffle will be going ahead this coming Sunday at 6pm in Clonaslee community centre.

“We would like to thank all our sponsors and the people who have kindly volunteered their time.”
