Portlaoise Comhaltas celebrated their recent amazing Fleadh achievements on Friday September 5 at The Heath Golf Club with a night of music, song and dance.

The Branch won gold in seven competitions and eight runner up prizes: Harp, Banjo, Bodhran, Mandolin, Harp Airs, Concertina, Melodion, Duet, Singing, 8-Hand Céilí Dancing and 4-Hand Céilí Dancing.

In addition to the first place medal winners, The Golden Croft Grúpa Ceoil won bronze, while the Céilí dancers also took home silver and bronze medals.

Laois County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Barry Walsh was in attendance and complimented Portlaoise Comhaltas members, teachers and parents who continue to support the tradition of Irish music, song and dance in our county.

He congratulated the prize winners who represented Laois and Leinster at the recent All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Wexford and who did their families and friends proud at the one of the most memorable Fleadhs in August.

The celebrations also congratulated the following two branch members who received the much coveted Micheál Ó hÉidhín gold medal award during recent examinations Scrudú Ceol Tíre – Jane Ramsbottom and Fionn Connolly.

Presentations were made to the music and dance teachers to thank them for their teaching and commitment to the branch over the past number of years.

A night concluded with a disco and lots of dancing. Congratulations to everyone involved.
