Clonad GAA club to host a Special Culture Night Screening of award winning film

Clonad GAA Club is set to celebrate Culture Night 2025 with a unique community event that promises an unforgettable evening of film, music, and togetherness, along with a cuplá focail as gaeilge.

This is a massive week for the club on the pitch as they will contest a championship final and semi final.

On Thursday, they take on Borris-Kilcotton in the Laois JHC ‘C’ final in the Centre of Excellence.

While on Sunday, they are off to Rathdowney to take on Slieve Bloom in the Laois IHC semi final.

Sandwiched in between that, they are inviting people to step back in time to 1970s Ireland with a special screening of the critically acclaimed, IFTA and BAFTA award-winning film, An Cailín Ciúin.

This beautifully crafted adaptation of Claire Keegan’s short story Foster tells the tender and emotional story of Cáit, a quiet nine-year-old girl who is sent to spend the summer with relatives.

Subtle, powerful, and deeply moving, the film has captivated audiences worldwide and is regarded as one of the finest Irish films of recent years.

A spokesperson said: “This is a free community event, open to all, and designed to bring people together in a warm and welcoming setting.

“Guests will enjoy complimentary refreshments on arrival, the sounds of traditional Irish music, and a shared cinematic experience in the heart of our community.

“We kindly ask attendees to reserve seating in groups of 2, 4, or 6, or let us know if you’re happy to be seated with others. Space is limited, so early booking is advised.

“Whether you’re a lifelong member of the Clonad community or visiting for the evening, a fáilte chroíúil awaits.

“Come and celebrate Irish culture, heritage, and music with us on this special night.”

Clonad GAA wishes to acknowledge the kind support for this event of Laois County Council, Laois Arts and Creative Ireland Laois and the on-going support of An Fondùireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonnacha in all of our Irish Language projects.
