Portlaoise College prepares to welcome families for annual Open Nights

Portlaoise College is looking forward to welcoming prospective students and their families to the Mountrath Road for this year’s Open Nights on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th September.

Both evenings will begin at 7 pm with an address from Principal Noel Daly, followed by guided tours of the school led by current students and staff.

This year’s visitors will be among the first to view the newly opened STEM building, which houses modern science and engineering rooms and new general classrooms. This is alongside a brand-new Home Economics room and additional homerooms in the main building.

These changes reflect the school’s ongoing commitment to innovation and ensuring students have access to facilities that enable them to reach their potential.

Families will have the opportunity to explore the school on the tours, experiencing the school’s excellent facilities and learning more about both academic programmes and extracurricular life at Portlaoise College.

Principal Noel Daly expressed his excitement about meeting future students and their families:

“Building relationships is at the core of everything we do here at Portlaoise College, and that process begins on Open Night. We are really looking forward to welcoming new faces to our school community and giving families a true sense of what makes our school special.”

Portlaoise College provides a well-rounded education that balances academic excellence with personal development.

Students benefit from a wide range of subject choices at both Junior and Senior Cycle, spanning sciences, languages, the arts, and technology. Support structures such as academic monitoring and mentoring help students to thrive.

Recent campus developments include a new astro turf pitch, six additional classrooms, and now the much-anticipated STEM building.

Beyond academics, the school also offers vibrant extracurricular opportunities. Student well-being is prioritised through induction programmes and the Meitheal mentoring system, where senior students support first years as they settle into school life.

Parents and students are warmly encouraged to attend the Open Nights to experience the inclusive, dynamic, and welcoming environment of Portlaoise College firsthand.

Applications can be submitted directly through the school’s website www.portlaoisecollege.ie  or by scanning the QR code on the school brochure from 1st October and will close on 24th October.
