Laois Premier IHC: Colt-Shanahoe and Rathdowney-Errill saga ends as replay set for this weekend

The ongoing saga between Rathdowney-Errill and Colt-Shanahoe in the Laois Shopping Centre Premier IHC appears to be at an end.

That is after Rathdowney-Errill offered to replay their quarter final match ‘in the interest of Laois GAA’.

The controversy arose after Rathdowney-Errill’s 2-22 to 1-15 win over Colt-Shanahoe where not the full allocated time was played.

Colt-Shanahoe appealed the result two weeks ago and the Laois CCC determined that a replay should be granted.

That was scheduled for last Sunday afternoon in Abbeyleix but was subsequently cancelled.

The news of that came 24 hours before hand when Rathdowney-Errill launched an appeal of this decision to the Laois Hearings Committee.

They upheld Rathdowney-Errill’s appeal and that meant they they were to face Mountmellick in Trumera on Saturday evening in the semi final.

However, Colt-Shanahoe took the step of bringing their case to the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA).

That led to the semi final being postponed as the DRA issued an interim ruling.

LaoisToday understands that the DRA called for the two clubs and Laois GAA to come together to find a resolution or else they would act.

So today, Rathdowney-Errill have offered Colt-Shanahoe a replay and that game is fixed for Sunday at 12pm in Rathdowney.

A spokesperson said: “Rathdowney-Errill have offered Colt-Shanahoe a replay for the best interest of our players and Laois GAA.

“we had one condition, we requested a home game.

“That replay will take place on Sunday at 12 o’clock in Rathdowney.”

The original fixture took place in Trumera on Friday, September 5, and the full time whistle was blown before the game entered the 58th minute – this was subsequently backed up by video footage on Clubber.

When referee Patrick Phelan signalled for full time, Rathdowney-Errill led by 2-22 to 1-15 – ten points.
