Mountrath Community School  – ‘our mission is to encourage and guide each student to achieve their full potential’

Mountrath Community School opened its doors 17 years ago and is an amalgamation of three local schools, Patrician Brothers, Ballyfin, Brigidine Secondary School, Mountrath and St Aengus Vocational School, Mountrath.

Our school is dedicated to helping every student reach their full potential. We provide high-quality teaching and learning alongside a broad range of academic, cultural, and technical subjects.

Academic excellence is at the heart of our school and every year we’re so proud of the achievements of our students here.

This year’s Leaving Certificate results were outstanding – almost a quarter of our class group achieved over 550 points, with five students scoring above 600 with one achieving the top 625 points. We look forward to their next steps.

But success at our school isn’t just about exam results. We believe in caring for every student as an individual, helping them to find their strengths and shine in their own way.

Each year, our students take part in exciting opportunities such as the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition, maths challenges, robotics, film club, Future Leaders, Junk Kouture, Think Languages, Seachtain na Gaeilge, choir, and many more.

At Mountrath Community School, we know every student is different – and with care and encouragement, we make sure each one has the chance to reach their full potential.

Sport plays a central role in school life, with students encouraged to get involved in a wide variety of activities.

Hurling, camogie, football, athletics, volleyball, and basketball are all part of a thriving sporting culture that promotes teamwork, skill, and school spirit.

Our facilities are second to none, with playing pitches, an on-site gym, a modern sports hall, and most recently, a state-of-the-art astro turf pitch that has become a hub of activity for training and matches.

At our school, sport is more than just competition—it’s a chance for every student to stay active, build friendships, and take pride in representing their school.

Each year, our Transition Year students take centre stage in the school musical – a highlight of the school calendar.

The productions showcase the incredible talent, creativity, and teamwork of our students, and are always met with great enthusiasm from the whole school community.

The school musical continues to be a cherished tradition, giving students the chance to shine, build confidence, and create memories that last a lifetime.

Cultural experiences are a key part of life in our school, with students given the opportunity to broaden their horizons through travel and learning beyond the classroom.

Each year, a number of foreign trips are organised, offering unforgettable experiences and bringing subjects to life.

On Wednesday 1st October from 6pm – 9pm, we invite you to come and meet our wonderful students, to have a look at our school and classrooms and to meet the staff and see for yourself what we have to offer you.  We cannot wait to meet you all on the night.
