WATCH: ‘Killeagh’ in Mountrath as St Fintan’s BNS all set for Laois IHC final on Saturday

Excitement is building ahead of Saturday’s Laois Shopping Centre Intermediate hurling championship final.

Clonad and Mountrath will go head to head for a place in the 2026 Laois Premier IHC.

So ahead of the final, we headed for Mountrath and took a stop in St Fintan’s Boys National School.

The all-boys school has five classrooms and two ASD rooms known as Le Cheile 1 and 2.

The school has 12 teachers and 108 students who all work under the guidance of principal Edel Parkinson.

There was great excitement on Friday as two very special guests joined the students – Mountrath captain Paul Rice and fellow player Mattie Rice also stopped in for a visit.

The lads had a chat with all of the students and also congratulated those on the U-13 team who won ‘A’ success against The Harps last weekend.

They spoke about their time in the school and explained how all bar three of the current panel are past pupils of St Finatan’s BNS.

After that, the whole school, accompanied by Colm Phelan on the bodhrán and put their own twist on the hit Kingfishr song ‘Killeagh’.

You can check out the video of that below plus some pictures from the day:
