Double All-Ireland Minor Championship success caps of remarkable year for Emo Rounders

In a year that will be etched into the rounders history books in Emo, the rounders club have soared to unprecedented heights — clinching ten All Ireland titles across multiple age groups and competitions.

What began as a modest local club has blossomed into a juggernaut of underage excellence, showing that skill, structure, and a deep community ethos can combine to produce a golden generation.

With eight underage titles under their belts Emo Rounders travelled to Myshall in Carlow on Sunday, September 28th to take on defending champions St. Martins of Wexford in minor men and minor mixed.

First up was the Minor Men’s All-Ireland final. Emo got off to a great start here, leading 13-1 after the first innings.

However, St. Martins, they tightened up their fielding form here on and also changed their pitcher.

This led to a much tighter innings for the rest of the game. But with the damage having been done in the first innings, it was always going to be a big ask for St Martins to close the gap and Emo ran out winners on a scoreline of 13-8.

Next up was the Mixed All-Ireland Final. This was predicted to be a much tighter affair as it could bee seen that St Martins were coming to terms with the speed of Liam Horgan’s pitching for Emo towards the end of the mixed game, also Alfie Canning was pitching from the very start for St Martins.

No runs were scored by either team in the first innings.

The 3rd innings was the highest scoring with Emo scoring four runs and St Martins scoring five.

Excellent batting and fielding from both teams kept all the other innings very tight but, in the end, it was probably the greater experience of the Emo men and ladies, that saw them edge it and win on a scoreline of 9-8.

With all but three players who played are still U16 for next season, Emo should be very strong at this grade for the next few years at least.

Emo Rounders have now won 10 underage All-Ireland titles this year, which is some feat in itself.

Many of their underage players now won 15 or more All-Ireland titles since they started playing rounders. In fact, one player; Raife Eogan has now won 18 All-Ireland underage titles.

A massive achievement, considering that he’s still U-15.
