Stage set as Ballyfin Players prepare three one-act plays at Mountmellick Community Arts Centre

The Ballyfin Players return to the stage this November with a lively evening of drama, comedy, and community spirit.

Their three One-Act Plays, will run on Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15th at 7.30pm nightly in the Mountmellick Community Arts Centre.

Following last year’s sold-out performances, audiences are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.

This year’s line-up features three wonderfully varied plays.

The Black and Tan Raid in Clontyglass, a commissioned work by Eileen Casey, is inspired by true events that took place in County Laois in 1921.

The play offers a powerful portrayal of life during turbulent times. Featuring local children alongside adult cast members, it brings a touching and authentic energy to the story.

The Hired Help is a short, laugh-out-loud comedy about mistaken identity in rural Ireland.

The Yank Outsider by Brian Drum rounds off the evening with a light-hearted comedy about matchmaking.

When an unsuspecting American lands in an Irish village, the locals aren’t one bit pleased.

Rehearsals have been underway since August, and as a newly reformed drama group, the Ballyfin Players say they are grateful for all the local support and enthusiasm shown in recent months.

Producer Gráinne Linden said: “It’s fantastic to see everyone’s hard work come together.

“This year’s plays are full of heart, humour, and history — a real celebration of local theatre.”

Co-producer A.C. Reynolds added: “There’s a great mix of comedy and drama this year.

“Having children on stage adds a lovely warmth, and it really shows what community theatre is all about.”

A special thanks is extended to Fr Joe Brophy, whose unwavering support and encouragement have once again played a huge part in helping the group bring these productions to life.

Tickets are available now on willwego.com, with a limited number also available from The Deadman’s and O’Gorman’s.

Supported by the Creative Ireland Programme, this production promises an unforgettable evening of storytelling, laughter, and local pride — the perfect night out for all ages.
