A Laois DJ is set to host an all day DJ set in aid of men’s mental health charity Movember this weekend.
Robbie Purcell, from Ballyfin, will be performing in Vibe in Portlaoise from 3pm to 12am on Saturday, November 22.
Speaking to LaoisToday, Robbie explained that he has chosen Movember because of the work that they do.
Robbie’s mam Áine passed away in May 2021 and as a result of this, he struggled with his own mental health.
Robbie said: “The reason I’ve chosen to do a fundraiser for November this year is for all the work they do in regards to men’s health and specifically men’s mental health.
“I’ve struggled with my own mental health since my mother passed away in May 2021.
“It’s important that foundations such as the Movember foundation make it known that it’s OK for men to struggle mentally and that speaking up about your mental health is in no way a weakness or a burden to anyone around you.
“Everyone goes through hard times in life but it needs to be made more aware that speaking up about your emotions can do a world of good for yourself and for the sake of mind of others around you who know you are struggling.”
