Mountmellick Macra’s much-loved Light Up Truck & Tractor Run is back by popular demand and will take place on Saturday, December 13, kick-starting the Christmas festivities in the town.
Now in its fifth year, the event promises to be bigger and brighter than ever, raising vital funds for SOSAD Laois.
The Run was launched with a lively Tug-of-War event in O’Connell Square, where Committee Chairperson Michael O’Gorman encouraged the community to turn out in force.
He said: “The event is one of the highlights not only of the Macra club year but for the community.
“People travel near and far to take part, and the effort put into decorating vehicles is uplifting and adds to what is a very special occasion.
“We are delighted to partner with SOSAD Laois this year and hope to raise as much as possible for this very special cause.”
Participants are encouraged to dress in festive attire and decorate vehicles with lights and Christmas themes. Prizes will be awarded for the Best Truck and Best Tractor.
As part of the fundraiser a Monster Raffle will be held with a top prize of €1,000 cash.
Tickets €5 each or 3 for €10, available online via the iDonate raffle link on Facebook, from committee members, or on the day. The draw takes place at The Hollow Bar on Sunday, December 14.
There will be lots of fun for all the ages. For the first time, there will be a Santa’s grotto with the opportunity to meet & greet Santa and Mrs Claus, plus face painting, hot drinks, food stalls, live music by Willie Bracken, and a special performance by Dance on Stage School (as seen at Electric Picnic).
Foam glow sticks will be available to spectators to light the way for participants, adding to the magic of this very special event.
The Run will assemble on the grounds of Mountmellick Development Association with Registration from 3pm.
The Run departs at 6pm sharp (to accommodate a concert in the Arts Centre). Entry Fees are Trucks €30 and Tractors €20.
Similarly to last year, the Trucks and Tractors will take separate routes.
Tractors: Mountmellick → Derrynalogue → Rosenallis → back to Mountmellick
Trucks: Mountmellick → Killeigh → Clonaslee → Rosenallis → back to Mountmellick
Spectators are warmly invited to line the streets or gather at the MDA car park to cheer on the illuminated convoy.
Volunteers will be onsite with collection buckets for those wishing to donate.
The Committee wishes to extend a huge thank you to the Board of the MDA for allowing access to the grounds of the Business Park for the event again this year. It could not be held without this fantastic venue.
