‘A man taken far too soon’ – Sadness following tragic passing of Laois man

    There is shock and sadness in Laois this week following the passing of father of five, grandad and husband.

    Sean Geoghegan, from Coolbally in Clough, died following an accident while working on Saturday.

    Mr Geoghegan was extremely well known around the Clough and Ballacolla areas.

    And at Monday’s meeting of Laois County Council, two Councillors paid tribute to him.

    Fine Gael’s John King said: “”Everybody would have known Sean from the Ballacolla area.

    “He worked in the farming community and following an accident on Saturday, unfortunately he lost his life.

    “A young man who should have been preparing for Christmas. A very sad time for the family.

    “He is another young man taken far too soon. May he Rest in Peace.”

    Echoing Cllr King’s word, Cllr Ollie Clooney said: “Sean will be remembered as a hard worked.

    “Sean was a family man and will be a huge loss to the whole community.”

    While posting on social media, Clough-Ballacolla camogie club paid a heartfelt tribute.

    They said: “It is with great sadness that Clough/Ballacolla Camogie Club hears of the tragic passing of Sean.

    “Sean has been a mentor with our camogie club for many years. An avid supporter, never missing a game.

    “Sean was a character. Genuine, dependable, reliable, always ready for a bit of banter and craic. Gave his honest opinion (whether you wanted to hear it or not!!!)

    “A hard working man and an extremely proud father to all his children. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and neighbours.

    “The sideline will be that bit quieter without his presence but he wont be far from our thoughts.”

    Sean is predeceased by his father John and his brother James (Jimmy).

    Sean will be greatly missed and is deeply regretted by is devoted mother Breda and his heartbroken wife Barbara.

    He is the much loved father of Hannah, Kevin, Jamie-Louise, Clodagh and Aaron.

    He will also be deeply missed by his grandson Rian, his brothers and sisters Liam, Mary, Gerry, Ann, Theresa, Paddy, Paul, Catherine and Stephen, his aunts and uncles, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

    Sean’s funeral arrangements will be announced later. May he Rest in Peace.
