Farmers in Laois will receive €294,340.30 under the Straw Incorporation Measure which delivers real benefits to farming families, said Fine Gael TD, Willie Aird.
Deputy Aird said: “Fine Gael is committed to backing farmers and ensuring that schemes like these deliver for communities and families around the country.
“€294,340.30 allocated to farmers in Laois is a welcome example of how Government policy can support farm incomes and sustainability.”
Deputy Aird said Overall funding of €8.3m will issue, with further payments issuing in the coming weeks to farmers who have participated in the scheme in 2025.
He said: “Payments under this scheme provide financial support for tillage farmers to increase soil organic carbon levels by chopping and incorporating straw from cereal and oilseed rape crops.”
“I am delighted that tillage farmers in County Laois are being rewarded for practices that improve soil quality and reduce waste, while rural areas benefit from the investment.
“These payments will go towards helping the under pressure the tillage sector, support local economies and contribute to a healthier environment for future generations.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Aird also confirmed that schools in Laois will benefit from funding through the Safe Routes to School Programme.
Rath National School, The Heath NS and Wolfhill NS will benefit from this additional funding.
He said: “Fine Gael made Safe Routes to School a priority in Government, and today’s announcement shows that commitment in action.
“With over €50m invested nationally to date we are ensuring safer journeys in Laois.
“These improvements include school zone features such as pencil shaped bollards, colourful road markings, upgraded footpaths, and enhanced pedestrian crossings, designed to slow traffic and make walking and cycling safer for students.
“The programme aims include improving safety and public health while reducing car congestion and supporting climate goals.”
