There’s nothing quite like a local link to a Cheltenham winner.

There has been a huge shock and Laois success on Day 2 of the Cheltenham horse racing festival.

Lecky Watson romped to glory in the Brown Advisory Novices´ Chase at 2pm at odds of 20/1.

Trained by Willie Mullins, Lecky Watson is owned by the Slaneyville Syndicate.

This is comprised of eight members of the Byrne family, including Portlaoise Parish Priest, Monsignor John Byrne.

Ballyburn was the odds on favourite under Paul Townend but when he didn’t fire, the door was open for the rest.

Lecky Watson was always in contention and in the end, it came down between him, Stellar Story and Better Days Ahead.

Under the ride of Sean O’Keeffe, Lecky Watson got the better of them up the home straight and won by four lengths.

And even more importantly, the horse, trained by Willie Mullins, wins the £112,540 first prize as well.
