A young Laois student has been crowned runner up in the Stripe Young Scientist of the year for 2026.
Joshua Corbett, a Sixth Year student at Portlaoise CBS, scooped two prizes this evening.
The Vicarstown student, who is the eldest son of James and Catherine, impressed the judges with his project ‘There’s Plenty of Room to Breakthrough at the Bottom’.
Josh’s project is an innovative AI-driven approach to overcoming preclinical failures and advancing brain drug delivery.
Joshua was also named the overall category winner for chemistry, mathematics and physics.
This is the second time that Joshua has been recognised at the competition after he finished second in the Senior Technology Individual Category.
Joshua entered the Technology section with his project entitled ‘Development of a novel nano-QSAR model to predict drug delivery of nanoparticles to the brain’.
He developed a paper that focuses on the development of a novel nano-QSAR model to predict drug delivery of nanoparticles to the brain.
Joshua hoped the project can assist researchers in developing treatment for Glioblastoma, an aggressive cancer that attacks the brain and spinal cord.
