New year will bring ‘more secure water supply for Durrow’ says Uisce Eireann

It’s set to be a busy start to the new year on the Derry Road, Durrow, with Uisce Éireann crews on site from next week as a programme of mains replacement begins.

The project will see the replacement of more than 1km of aging mains with new, modern pipes.

Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager at Uisce Éireann, said the works will provide customers in Durrow with a more secure and reliable drinking water supply.

He said: “The replacement of these water mains will improve the resilience of the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground.

“We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience in advance as we carry out these essential works.”

Shareridge is carrying out these works under Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme and they are expected to be completed by early spring.

Laois TD Sean Fleming welcomed the works. He said: “This will ensure a more reliable drinking water supply for people who live in the area.

“Currently there are substantial leaks resulting in good clean water being lost underground. The works commencing next week will eliminate this.

“Uisce Eireann have engaged Shareridge to carry out this work which is to be completed in early Spring.

“Finally, I look forward to these works being completed resulting in an improved water supply and the reduction in water leaks in Durrow.”
