Four new additional special classes have been announced for four Laois primary and secondary schools.
Our Ladys Meadows Durrow, Presentation Primary Portarlington and Scoil Phádraig Portarlington are the national schools who have received one.
While the fourth is gone to Heywood Community School in Ballinakill.
Laois and Fianna Fail TD Sean Fleming welcomed the news.
He said: “I want to compliment the Schools’ Management and staff and all those involved in progressing these projects to this stage.
“Education and special education is a priority for Fianna Fáil in Government.
“Providing new additional classes and learning places for children with special needs is very important.
“I look forward to these new special classes and the new students being in place for the next school year 2026/2027.”
