A young Laois student has been named as the runner up in the national Lions Club Youth Ambassador Award competition.
The Youth Ambassador competition is an annual event run by Lions Clubs Ireland.
This competition acknowledges and awards young people between 15 – 19 yrs for their community involvement, their leadership skills and speaking ability.
Each year local clubs run their own preliminary rounds to select their local Youth Ambassador.
This year Portlaoise Lions Club nominated James Doyle, a 5th Year student from St Mary’s CBS Portlaoise who hails from The Heath.
The National Final took place on Saturday, January 17 in the Midlands Park Hotel Portlaoise.
During this event each Youth Ambassador underwent in depth interviews and made presentations to showcase their Community and voluntary Work.
The overall winner of this National Competition received a bursary towards their community project, a trophy and will now represent Ireland in the European Final in Karlsruhe, Germany in October 2026.
The Runner up and third prize winners now have the opportunity to participate in the European Youth Exchange Programme.
Portlaoise Lions Club extend huge congratulations to James, the National Runner up in this Prestigious Competition.
They wish him well as he prepares for the European Youth Exchange.
