There was big Laois success at the National Indoor AAI Games which took place last weekend.
Portlaoise AC’s Dan Downey won the U-18 All Ireland Indoor Heptathlon Championship in style.
His final points tally of 4,845 saw the Park-Ratheniska GAA man set a new National Record in the process.
This event is the kick off of the indoor season which took place at the National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown, Dublin.
For St Abban’s, Maisy O’Sullivan competed in Heat 1 of the 800m where she finished 3rd with a time of 2:12.
In the Men’s 800m James Hyland also finished 3rd in Heat 3 in 2:07.
Emily O Shea opened her season running 4:27 for 1500m while Annabelle Lawlor made her senior debut when she competed in Heat 2 of the 1500m finishing in 5:01.
In the Men’s 1500m Cian Kelly was pipped on the line, finishing 2nd in 3:59.
Katie Baldwin was in action in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump. She finished 8th in the Long Jump in 4.71m while her hop, skip and jump of 10.22m in the Triple Jump was good enough for 5th place.
