Portlaoise College’s Transition Year students are set to take to the stage with their highly anticipated production of High School Musical.
The performances will take place at the Dunamaise Arts Centre on February 4 and 5, with curtains rising at 7.30pm on both nights.
Directed by Ms Wilson, Mr Hogan and Mr Whelehan, with choreography by Sonya Cuddy, the production is an exciting adaptation of the much-loved musical and features a talented cast of students.
Leading the show are Thomas Fitzpatrick as Troy Bolton and Melody-Jane Duncan as Gabriella Montez.
They are supported by Aoibhinn Grundy as Sharpay Evans and Josh Kirwan as Ryan Evans.
The ensemble is completed by an enthusiastic group of performers who bring iconic numbers such as We’re All in This Together and Breaking Free to life.
Music directors Mr McHugh and Ms Brophy have worked diligently with the students to ensure a high-quality performance throughout.
Speaking about the production, Ms Wilson said it had been incredibly rewarding to watch the students develop both confidence and skill while embracing the challenges of their roles.
Mr Whelehan praised the cast’s dedication, saying the energy, teamwork and commitment shown by the students had been outstanding and that audiences could look forward to seeing their hard work light up the stage.
The production’s authentic look, which closely mirrors the original show, is due in no small part to the costumes and props managed by Ms Kennedy, ensuring a vibrant and era-appropriate visual appeal.
Mr Hogan encouraged the public to attend, describing the show as a feel-good night of music, dance and storytelling that brings the spirit of East High to life on stage.
