In Pictures: Leinster badminton glory for Mayo National School

A Laois primary school was celebrating last week after it captured a Leinster title in style.

The boys from Mayo National School of Crettyard were crowned Leinster badminton champions.

Last Thursday, they got the better of 23 schools from all over Leinster in Baldoyle in the Leinster Badminton Centre

The boys won an epic semi final 37-36 against Adamstown Educate Together from Dublin.

That set up a final against Skryne from Meath which the lads emerged from as three point winners.

The team was made up of Daire O’Sullivan, Liam Doyle, Charlie Curran and Scott Roe while their coach was Tom Smyth.

This is the latest accolade for O’Sullivan who has also represented Ireland in badminton in the past.

Principal Liam Lalor said: “The most commendable aspect of their win was other teachers remarking on the Mayo boys as being great sportsmen but more importantly lovely lads too.

“Well done boys!”

Mayo National School now progress on to the All-Ireland finals which will take place in March.
