The Sigerson Cup final is down for decision in Croke Park on Wednesday evening and a Laois man will be involved.
University of Limerick (UL) are set to face University College Cork (UCC) in the final which throws in at 7.30pm and is live on TG4.
The Laois man involved is Portlaoise’s Ben Dempsey who has started in the full back line for UL in all of their games to date.
The 3rd Year Geography and Irish student has had an extremely busy start to 2026 as he also started in Laois’s opening two National League Division 3 matches.
UL opened their campaign with a comfortable win over MTU Cork by 0-17 to 1-9.
Defending champions DCU, who had Killeshin’s Conor Heffernan in their ranks, were up next and UL won that by 1-18 to 0-12.
That sent them into a quarter final against Maynooth University, who had Annanough’s Jake Darcy and Emo’s Sean Greene on their panel.
This was a classic encounter that went all the way to extra time but UL prevailed by 3-16 to 0-17.
Queen’s University Belfast were UL’s semi final opponents and this game also went to extra time where the Munster college won 3-23 to 2-21.
Notable UL players include Mayo duo Cian McHale and Frank Irwin who are both leading forwards.
Brian McNamara (Clare), Darragh Cashman (Cork), Jack McCabe (Galway) and Cathal Brosnan (Kerry) are also representing their county.
