€126,500 CLÁR funding announced for three community projects in Laois

Three community projects in Laois will share €126,500 under the CLÁR Programme it has been announced.

The investment is the latest to be delivered under Our Rural Future, the Government’s ambitious rural development policy.

The news was confirmed today by Minister for State at the Department of Finance, Sean Fleming.

Clonin Sports Field Committee have received €40,000. This will be spent on the installation of a basketball/ tennis court hardstanding area and extension of the ball wall curtilage.

Camross National School has been granted €37,000 for the provision of an outdoor performance space.

While St Aengus FC in Mountrath have been given €49,500 for phase 1 development of full size Astroturf pitch at their grounds in Derrycanton.

The CLÁR programme is targeted investment for rural areas that aims to provide funding for small infrastructural projects in rural areas and to develop projects that will benefit people of all ages in our communities.

Sports Clubs, Schools and community groups were invited to apply for funding.

74 successful community groups nationwide received funding and successful projects include astroturf pitches, community gyms, playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, outdoor pool tables, outdoor cinemas, walkways, public toilets and car park facilities.

Deputy Fleming said: “I would like to congratulate these groups on their successful application.

“Our schools, sports clubs and voluntary community groups do tremendous work in our community and so many people in our towns and villages benefit from the facilities and activities they offer.

“I wish them all the best of luck as they proceed now with this additional funding improving the facilities for their students, club members and their communities.”
