Sadness following the passing of fondly remembered and popular Laois barman

    Pat Tynan RIP Main

There is sadness in Portlaoise and the surrounding areas this week following the passing of a popular barman.

Pat Tynan, of Borris Little, Portlaoise, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 28.

Mr Tynan is widely known as a familiar face behind the bar at Peig’s where he served for more than two decades.

Posting on social media yesterday, Portlaoise GAA remembered Pat fondly and paid tribute to his good humour.

They said: “Such sad news to hear of the passing of Pat Tynan. He was a friend to so many Portlaoise GAA people from his work in Peigs Bar.

“Peigs, of course, is a hugely popular venue for GAA people and the club holds its lotto there every Thursday night.

“Pat was a great character and his wit and good humour will be sadly missed. There was always plenty of slagging about the Town and also about his hometown club, Trumera.

“Pat would stir the pot on a regular basis, but there was always the playful nod and wink.

“He loved the banter and he was a face that everyone looked forward to seeing. He brought fun, humour and good natured devilment.

“Our deepest condolences go to Pats wife Marie, to his children Ronan and Orla, his mother Joan, his brothers Noel and Eddie, sisters Pauline, Caroline, Annette and Joan – and all of his extended family and his many friends. Also our hearts go out to Pats work colleagues in Peigs – George, Liz, Denise and all the staff.

“Rest in Peace Pat – you will be sadly missed.”

Pat is predeceased by his father Ned, brother Brendan and his recently deceased father-in-law David Fleming.

He is deeply regretted by his loving wife Marie, son Ronan, daughter Orla, mother Joan, brothers Noel and Eddie, Sisters Pauline, Caroline, Annette and Joan, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and his work colleagues and customers in Peig’s Bar Portlaoise.

Pat will be reposing at Keegan’s Funeral Home on Wednesday April 30 from 6.30pm until 8pm with rosary at 7.30pm.

His removal will take place on Thursday to arrive at SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise for 11am requiem mass.

Interment will follow afterwards in SS Peter and Pauls Cemetery, Portlaoise. The funeral mass can be viewed on: https://www.portlaoiseparish.ie/webcam/

    May Pat Rest in Peace.
