Laois County Library Service has announced the return of the “My Little Library Bag” initiative which offers every child starting school in September a free Book Bag.

Library Staff have put together a bag of books and resources to help children starting primary school in September this year.

They say that all are welcome to call their local library and collect their very own library card and wallet and library bag .

Each book bag is filled with resources designed to support your child’s early learning journey.

Available in both Irish and English, the bags include:

  • A delightful book about starting school
  • An engaging story focused on making friends or celebrating individuality
  • A brand new library card, unlocking a world of stories
  • A special ‘My Little Library’ cardholder to keep their card safe
  • Helpful resources, such as the Rufus Handwashing Storybook, promoting healthy habits

County Librarian Bernie Foran said: “Reading is a magical gift and it is great to give children the opportunity to develop a love of reading.

“The library service encourages children and their families to visit regularly.

“We have a wide selection of children’s books and run many exciting events throughout the year.

“We hope that these book bags will ignite a lifelong love of reading and learning in every child as they embark on this exciting new chapter.”
