Cosy choir to celebrate ten-year anniversary with sold-out concert in Mountrath

A Laois choir is set to celebrate ten years with their first ever solo concert in what promises to be a night of “song, joy, and community spirit.”

The Cosy Choir, based in Mountrath, is comprised of several members who have spent the last decade coming together to sing, entertain, and most of all have fun.

The anniversary concert takes place in Bloom HQ, Mountrath, on Friday, June 20, at 7pm. The concert will help to raise money for  Laois Hospice and Irish Guide Dogs.

“What started with a few of us singing in the mornings at The Cosy Café has grown into something really special; and now, ten years later, the Cosy Choir is hosting its very first concert – and it’s sold out,” Sinead Cooper, PRO of the Cosy Choir, said.

“Ten years ago, a group of us would gather in the café, singing a few songs to lift the spirits, and it brought a bit of cheer to the mornings.

“One day, Michael Farrell turned around and said, ‘Why not set up a choir?’ – and that was that. The Cosy Choir was born.

“Since then, we’ve been lucky enough to sing at all sorts of local community events – from turning on the Christmas lights, to commemorations like the 1916 Rising, a visit to the Dáil, and the privilege of singing with Mountrath Community School and at the amazing Ballyfin hotel for a special Christmas Eve celebration.

“At the heart of The Cosy Choir is our incredible conductor, Bernie Coss. This concert was Bernie’s idea, and she has been the driving force behind everything we do.

“Her passion, encouragement, and dedication have shaped this choir into the special group it is today. Bernie brings out the best in every one of us – always with a smile, a bit of fun, and a deep love for music and community.

“Today, The Cosy Choir has grown to over 30 members – a real community family who just love to sing together.

“This upcoming concert marks our ten-year anniversary, and it’s a celebration of everything this group has become over the years.

“We’re delighted to say the concert is a full house, and even more proud that the event is raising money for two causes close to our hearts – Laois Hospice and Irish Guide Dogs. We’ve been so grateful for the support of our amazing sponsors and wider community.

“The Cosy Choir was built on friendship, music, and a little bit of magic – and we can’t wait to share that with everyone at our very first concert.”
