In Pictures: Laois athletes excel at National Children’s Games and U-12 Championships

The National Children’s Games and U-12 Championships were held in Tullamore recently with St Abban’s excelling.

As with any National Championship, the standard is extremely high and medals are very hard won.

Leo Smith finished 3rd in the U-12 High Jump with a jump of 1.28m.

The duo of Ava Brophy and Meabh Kearney took home two sets of medals when they won gold in the U-11 Pairs Long Jump and 3rd in the 600m.

Also in action on the day were Hannah Condron and Marnie Delaney in the U-9 300m.

Hannah and Marnie teamed up with Ciara Kearney and Beatrice McMahon in the U-9 4X100m relay.

In the boys U-12 4X100m relay, Liam Doyle, Tom Condron, Reuben Kelly and Leo Smith ran strong legs to finish 2nd in their heat.

Leo and Liam also competed in the U-12 Boys Long Jump where they recorded marks of 4.09m and 3.79m.

Edward McDonald finished 10th in the U-12 Shot Putt with a throw of 8m.

Shana Timmons finished 4th in the U-12 60m sprint, while Penelope McMahon was just outside the medals when she finished 5th in the U-12 Girls 600m.

The U-12 relay of Meabh, Ava, Penelope and Shana also finished 2nd in their heat.
