Laois band Byro – formerly Coolboy – set to feature on RTÉ series An Ghig Mhór this Monday evening

A Laois band are set to make an appearance on RTÉ television this Monday as part of the series finale of An Ghig Mhór.

The show will air on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player at 8pm, and will see Irish artist Síomha bestow advise upon Byro – formerly known as Coolboy – a four-piece indie rock band from Laois.

The Laois band comprises of Tadgh O’Dwyer (lead vocals and guitar), Fionn Devoy (lead guitar), Ruairi Phelan (Drums) and Alex Power (Bass Guitar).

They formed in the Autumn of 2023 with a style that drew influences from the likes of The Beatles and Thin Lizzy, along with more modern acts such as Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Backseat Lovers.

While still under the name Coolboy, the Laois quartet released their debut single ‘High Tide’ twelve months ago in July of 2024.

Since beginning their journey on the RTÉ show, the band have gone through style and line-up changes and now perform as ‘BYRO’.

In each episode of the show, a renowned Irish musician mentors an up-and-coming band and helps them to organise their first big gig in their hometown.

Independent Irish singer and guitarist Síomha, who has been mentoring BYRO, “dances the line between folk, jazz and neo-soul effortlessly taking audiences on an unexpected and unforgettable journey with her soulful melodies.”

She has toured extensively across Europe, the UK, North America, and Australia, captivating audiences with her unique sound at renowned festivals and performances worldwide.
