Portlaoise CBS announce five scholarship winners for incoming first years

Portlaoise CBS have announced that five of the first years for the 2025/2026 academic year have received scholarship awards.

‘From Each Their Best’ awards two incoming 6th class students across both academic and sporting achievements.

The applicants must sit an exam and have their sporting achievements verified by their coaches. The best overall, academic being the deciding criteria, are selected.

They each receive an iPad and a €250 Shaws voucher for their uniform.

The winners of this are Ratheniska NS’s Ben McCormack and Scoil Bhride Portlaoise’s Corey Doheny.

Meanwhile, the winner of the Basketball Scholarship, sponsored by Portlaoise Panthers, is Kian French Glynn.

Principal Maura Murphy said: “We wish to congratulate him on this achievement and look forward to watching his talents develop on the court in the coming years.

“Kian has received his new iPad for the school year ahead. Thank you to all who applied for this Scholarship.

“We recognise the large part which the Panthers Club plays in the sporting life of our town and surrounding area and are delighted to work closely with them throughout the year to support our young people.”

Finally, Portlaoise Rugby Club once again sponsored two scholarships to incoming 1st years to the school for their excellence in their rugby careers to date.

Finn Byrne and Adam Coady have been selected and have both received their new iPads for the school year ahead.

Principal Murphy added: “Thank you to everyone who applied.

“There was strong interest, not surprising with the widespread support which Rugby has in the Portlaoise area.

“We want to thank Portlaoise Rugby Club for their support throughout the school year for which we are very grateful.”

Well done to the five lads!
