Full Steam Ahead: The 61st National Steam Rally Returns to Stradbally this August Bank Holiday Weekend

The National Steam Rally, one of Ireland’s longest-running and most-loved heritage festivals, returns to Stradbally, County Laois this August Bank Holiday Weekend for its 61st edition.

Taking place on Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th August, the rally is organised by the Irish Steam Preservation Society and promises two unforgettable days of family fun, vintage machinery, and musical entertainment.

This year’s event will showcase a breathtaking collection of full-size and miniature steam engines, travelling from all corners of Ireland and beyond.

From the unmistakable chuff and hiss of steam to the sight of these giants rolling into action, the Rally brings industrial history to life in spectacular style.

But steam is just the beginning. The weekend will also feature an incredible range of vintage and classic cars, tractors, motorcycles, oil engines, commercial vehicles, and vintage trucks — from beautifully restored family favourites to rare and unique finds. Highlights include the return of the Tar Squad with their working vintage road-building display, and vibrant Modern Truck & Car Displays.

A huge crowd is expected for what could be a World Record-breaking gathering of International tractors, with stunning examples attending from across the island — including a 1916 International Mogul and a 1921 International Junior, both built in Chicago.

If you own an International tractor, new or old, you’re encouraged to register and be part of this historic attempt.

The event isn’t just about machines — music plays a central role in creating the Rally’s electric atmosphere.
