Portlaoise and St Joseph’s will meet in Round 2 of this year’s Laois SFC.
That would appear to be the pick of the fixtures as the draw was made after this evening’s action in O’Moore Park. The other high-profile game on the winners side of Round 2 sees champions Portarlington taking on Graiguecullen in what is a repeat of last year’s semi-final.
There will be a local derby between Killeshin and Arles-Killeen while Courtwood v Ballyroan-Abbey completes the line up in that stage of the competition.
On the losers side, the clash of Rosenallis v Ballyfin is probably the pick of the games, it being a relatively novel derby at senior football.
O’Dempsey’s will take on Crettyard, The Heath and Clonaslee-St Manman’s meet in a repeat of last year’s Senior ‘B’ final while Emo v Stradbally is the final game.
The Round 2 games in both the Laois SFC and IFC will take place in two weeks’ time, probably beginning on the Wednesday evening, August 6, and continuing to Sunday, August 10.
In the intermediate championship, favourites Mountmellick will meet Park-Ratheniska in the Round 2 winners section in what will be a repeat of last year’s semi-final which Mountmellick won comfortably.
The other game on that side of the draw will see the last two Junior ‘A’ champions face off – Annanough and Kilcavan.
On the losers side, Ballylinan will meet Timahoe while Portlaoise will face Arles-Kilcruise.
