In Pictures: Rosenallis Festival of the Mountain dubbed ‘most successful since 1962’

The most recent Rosenallis Festival of the Mountain has been dubbed as the most successful since the very first one back in 1962.

So says one of the organisers, Daniel McDonald, following the most recent festival on August 17.

Mr McDonald heralded the festival and explained how people came from far and wide.

He said: “About 2,000 plus people attended. It was the biggest festival attendance ever since 1962.

“Many people came from across Ireland and we had a number of people from the US there.

“Our new site extension proved very useful as it could accommodate all the parking even if it did all fill up.”

The weather also played ball while the entertainment was a big hit.

Daniel said: “It has been a massive success. The sun shined all day long.

“The Timahoe Male Choir and The Red Ember Belly Dancers had the crowds dazzled and people joined in clapping and singing.

“The atmosphere was electric. We also had the New Light Duo band entertain us afterwards.

“It was very warm on the mountain with the heat. We had a performance from Portarlington Comhaltas and Rock On Paddy entertained too.”

Charlene Duff was crowned the Queen of the Mountain while Jack Bowe was named the King – and there were an array of events.

Daniel said: “We had many events such as a dog show, Tug of War, mouse game, guess the weight of the animal, water dunking into a swimming pool, children’s GAA matches, glamorous granny and King of the Mountain competitions.

“There was also archery, vintage vehicles, Amusements for children, dancing, a huge amount of stalls and our own cooked burgers and chips and an array of other food.”
