Deadline for registration extended for Laois GAA’s O’Moore Og football programme

The deadline for registration for the upcoming Laois GAA O’Moore Og football programme has been extended.

This initiative, aimed at those who are U-10, U-11 and U-12 (born 2015, 2014 and 2013), is seen as the first key corner stone in a young footballer’s county development journey.

It gives every boy an opportunity to take part in a development programme that will see them train with and against players from all over the county and aims to help all players progress and improve over a six week period.

Shane Keegan, Head of Games Development at Laois GAA, explained how the U-10 and U-11 sessions will begin on Monday, September 8, and run for six weeks until October 13.

While the U-12 sessions will start on Tuesday, September 9, and conclude on October 14 – all taking place in the Centre of Excellence from 6.15pm to 7.30pm.

The programme for the three age groups will be run by full-time Laois GAA staff in conjunction with some excellent club coach volunteers who have put their names forward to get involved.

Keegan said: “Among those who have put up their hand to come forward is former Laois manager John Sugrue who will be working with the U-12 group.

“He is just one of a number of great people who are willing to put their shoulder to the wheel for the betterment of Laois football.

“We are so grateful to all of the volunteers who have agreed to give up their time.”

Keegan also explained how the programme will focusing on developing the core skills of game of football and also functional movement abilities.

He said: “To that end, we will be involving Jason Woods and Brian Ging in this programme.

“Jason worked with the Laois minor hurlers last year and Brian was with the footballers – brought bring a wealth of experience and knowledge.”

The deadline to register was last night but Keegan explained why Laois GAA had decided to extend it.

He said: “I got quite a lot of phone calls after the 5pm deadline for people who wanted to sign their son up.

“Therefore we are happy to extend the deadline out by a week to 5pm next Wednesday – September 3.

“We’ve nearly 300 signed up, which is brilliant, but we want to make sure that everyone who wants to take part in this, has the opportunity to.

“So if anybody has missed the opportunity to get involved, the deadline has been extended and they should log on fast and to sign up.”
