In Pictures: Fourth annual John Duggan Memorial Cup a massive success as more than 120 golfers take part

The organisers of the Portlaoise CBS past pupils union, Kevin Sheehan and Mark Keenan, held the annual golf classic in The Heritage Golf resort in Killenard recently.

A massive 124 golfers, representing 17 different golf clubs around the country, played.

All of them had the aim of getting their name on the much sought after John Duggan Cup which honours the great man.

John Duggan sadly passed away in April 2021 and the first competition held in his memory took place in 2022.

John was widely known in teaching and sporting circles and was heavily involved in the school’s GAA teams over the years as well as with the Portlaoise GAA club, whom he played and coached with.

He was a keen golfer and in 2017 helped a team of Portlaoise CBS and Portlaoise College staff to win the inaugural All Ireland Teachers Golf Championship.

His legacy lives on with the John Duggan Memorial Cup, who has a new winner for 2025.

Captain Stan Walsh was a popular choice this year and the event was the biggest yet.

Winner Paddy Dalton was over the moon with the win.

He said: “It is an honour to have won this cup as there was so many playing and it was great to win it on a championship course like the Heritage.”
