All our Laois GAA club championship coverage is brought to you in association with Mulhall’s SuperValu, Portlaoise
There were great scenes in O’Moore Park yesterday as a club that have been starved of success got over the line.
Clonad got the better of Mountrath in the Laois Shopping Centre IHC final.
It was a first championship title since their last senior win back in 1992 in what was their first final appearance since 2015.
Clonad played with the wind in he first half and led by nine points at the end of it.
In truth, they should have been further ahead by they managed to amass nine wides.
David O’Brien’s men then managed the game against it and although Mountrath threw everything at them, Clonad had enough done to hold on.
A goal from Dan O’Sullivan in the first half proved crucial while John Onions and Fionn Holland were outstanding.
They now have a Leinster campaign to look forward to and a Premier IHC challenge in 2026.
Photographer Denis Byrne was present at full time and captured some great images.
