Death occurs of Mick Clear, a giant of the the Rosenallis community and beyond

    The death has occurred of Mick Clear from Rosenallis, a giant of the local community and a man who gave freely and generously of his time – and indeed his land – over the years. He was aged in his late 80s.

    Be it the Festival of the Mountain, the Slieve Bloom Association or the iconic Rainbow Festival – which was hosted on his land in 1993 – his name was synonymous with an amount of positive events around the Rosenallis area over the years.

    Knowledgeable and generous, he was head, neck and heels involved in a number of ventures and organisations and was a widely respected employee in Coillte where he worked for many years.

    He was also a proud member of Fianna Fáil, supporting numerous Local and General Election candidates for the party at various stages.

    “Mick gave so much of his time and energy to (us) over the years,” said the Rosenallis Festival of the Mountain committee in a statement.

    “He served as chairman for many years and played a huge part in organising the Festival of the Mountain, St Patrick’s Day parades and the 1993 Rainbow Gathering which took place on his own land.

    “He was the voice of the Festival of the Mountain – our MC for years – and helped to make every festival that bit special. He was genuinely passionate about the Rosenallis Development Association.”

    Mick passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Oakdale Nursing Home. He is predeceased by his wife Maureen, sister Mary Ann and brother Paddy.

    Deeply regretted by his sons Michéal, Pauric and Noel, daughter-in-law Michelle, grandchildren Michael and Katie, sisters-in-law Kathleen Wiseley and Pauline Scott, brothers-in-law John Joe Dunne and Danny Lynch, extended family, neighbours, relatives and friends.

    Mick is reposing in Moloneys Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5 o’clock, Recital of the Rosary at 7 o’clock. Removal from Moloneys Funeral Home on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock to St. Brigid’s Church, Rosenallis for Requiem Mass at 12 o’clock (Via his home in Skerry). Burial afterwards in St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Rosenallis.
