The Harps v Castletown
Laois U-20 Hurling Championship Final in O’Moore Park at 1.30pm
O’Moore Park is the venue as The Harps and Castletown are set to do battle in the U-20 hurling championship final.
For The Harps, they are going in search of their fourth title at this grade in a row.
But standing in their way is a team who have beaten them in the last two minor finals – Castletown.
Castletown began this competition in Group A and started with big wins over Ballyfin-Mountrath and Abbeyleix.
Top spot and a home semi final was achieved after they received a walkover from Rathdowney-Errill in their final game.
In Group A, The Harps enjoyed a similar experience where they won all of their games.
Wins over Camross and Borris-Kilcotton set them on their way before an 18 point win over Clough-Ballacolla secured top spot.
The one-sided nature of games involving The Harps continued in the semi final as they trounced Abbeyleix by 4-15 to 1-7.
The Harps have a team stacked with quality and even contain a Laois senior in the form of Ciaran Flynn who saw minutes under Tommy Fitzgerald this year.
Jack Kennedy, Hugh Whelan, Ross Deegan, Justin Duggan, Mark Downey and Donal Deegan all played in the Senior B final which The Harps won in October.
While Liam Kirby and Tony Mahony have been top performers for this side – with Eoin Delaney, albeit after missing the semi final through injury, also eligible.
Castletown have plenty of experience in their ranks too with Laois U-20 captain Rory Kelly leading the defence.
Dan Whelan and Tom Og Phelan were key members of the winning minor side while Kyron Cuddy, Jack Breen, Tommy Goode and Ray Goode have stood out.
The Harps are favourites but Castletown will be hoping to get one over them once again.
