Laois County Council General

€465,000 has been approved for Community Action Projects in Laois – so says Fianna Fail TD Sean Fleming.

These grants are available to organisations such as tidy towns groups, residents’ association groups, voluntarily organisations and sports clubs.

This funding can be used for building insultation and window/door replacements, solar PV and battery installation, LED lighting upgrades, community gardens and biodiversity projects.

It can also be used for composters, recycling bins and swap shop materials, water bottle fillers, bike parking, and repair stations, reusable cups and energy-efficient hand dryers.

Deputy Fleming said: “These grants will support projects dealing with community energy, travel, shopping and recycling, food and waste and environmental/climate projects.”

The level of grants available are small grants up to €20,000, medium grants up to €50,000 and large grants up to €100,000.

This funding by the Government through Laois County Council is being administered through the Community Climate Officer in Laois County Council.

He said: “I would ask all community groups who wish to get an application in to contact Laois County Council directly on this matter.

“It is a great opportunity for local organisations to draw down these grants to improve climate action projects in their area.

“I would encourage all local groups in Laois to apply straight away as the closing date is Monday, December 22.”
