2025 was an incredible year for Laois camogie but the year started in January with an acknowledgement of the 2024 season.

There was a serious buzz in the Killeshin Hotel on Friday evening as the Laois Camogie awards for the 2024 season took place.

With brilliant style on show, camogie players, mentors, supporters and their family flocked to the Portlaoise hotel.

2024 will be remember at the top county level as the year where they got so close to winning three trophies.

In the National League, Laois reached the Division 3A final where they lost to Armagh by a point.

They recovered from that to qualify for the Leinster Intermediate championship final where Wexford beat them by a solitary score.

And further heartbreak came later in the year when they reached the Premier Junior All-Ireland final but Tipperary defeated them by, you guessed it, a point.

It was still a fantastic achievement to reach all three finals and their efforts were recognised on the night – with the team no doubt intent be back this year, seeking to win all three this time.

On the club front, St Brigid’s were crowned champions and added a Leinster title to that before narrowly losing the All-Ireland semi final.

Goalkeeper Laura Dunne was named Player of the Year for that grade and deservedly so after a string of fine performances.

Portlaoise were crowned Junior champions in Laois and Ciara Crowley was named player of the year.

12-time All-Ireland winner and former referee Ann Downey was the guest of honour on the night and presented the awards.

Photographer Denis Byrne was present on the evening and captured some great images.
