Applications open for September intake at Portlaoise Institute

Portlaoise Institute has announced that applications for all full-time courses commencing in September will open on Tuesday, 20th January.

Prospective students are encouraged to apply early to secure their place across a wide range of programmes designed to meet the needs of school leavers, career changers, and those seeking to upskill or progress to higher education.

Portlaoise Institute, part of Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB), offers high-quality further education and training in a modern campus environment, with strong links to industry and clear progression pathways to universities. 

In response to growing learner demand and evolving industry needs, a number of new programmes have been introduced over the past two years, including:

  • Speech Therapy Studies
  • Law and Criminology
  • Holistic Well-being
  • Psychology
  • Business with Human Resources
  • Graphic Design

Portlaoise Institute also holds a unique position within the region as the only education provider in Laois and Offaly offering Level 8 degree programmes on campus. Students can complete the first year of selected honours degrees locally, including:

  • Bachelor of Business Studies 
  • Bachelor of Science in Software Development
  • Bachelor of Science in IT Management

These programmes provide learners with the opportunity to begin their degree studies in a supportive, local environment while benefiting from smaller class sizes, dedicated academic support, and modern facilities, before progressing to complete their qualification in SETU Carlow. 

Comprehensive learner supports are also available, including academic guidance, career planning, learning supports and access to financial assistance such as SUSI grants.
