JOB VACANCY – Evening Shift Mechanical Fitter

Laois Sawmills invites applications for the position of Evening Shift Mechanical Fitter to join our maintenance team at our Portlaoise facility.
This role is critical to ensuring the continued safe and efficient operation of our production equipment, with a primary focus on preventive maintenance and minimising unplanned downtime.
We are seeking a reliable and experienced mechanical fitter with a strong understanding of industrial equipment and a proactive approach to maintenance.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent fault-finding skills, a commitment to high safety standards, and the ability to work independently as part of a structured evening shift.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) tasks in accordance with schedules to support asset reliability and plant performance.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and mechanical issues arising during the evening shift, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical systems, including hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Accurately record maintenance activities in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Maintain compliance with all health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
- Liaise effectively with day-shift personnel to ensure consistent communication and continuity of maintenance work.
Candidate Requirements:
- Recognised trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a mechanical maintenance role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of machinery, rotating equipment, conveyors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Demonstrated experience with preventive maintenance programmes.
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions under pressure.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
