Marie Kennedy (née Mulhair)

After a long illness bravely borne Marie passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, while under the care of the wonderful staff of Brookhaven Nursing.
Marie is predeceased by her parents Breda and Patrick and her brothers Patrick and Kieran. She will be deeply regretted and is sadly missed by her loving husband Martin, her daughters Sinead, Caroline and Marie, her sisters Breda, Margaret and Eileen, her brothers Noel.
Sean, Bernard, Thomas and Denis, her sisters in law, her son in law Kevin, Marie’s partner Paul, her 7 cherished grandchildren Katie, Alfie, Callie, Tessa, Daniel, Tara and Sean, Katie’s father Gavin, her nieces and nephews, extended family, neighbours and a large circle of friends.
Marie will repose in the Oratory in Brookhaven Nursing Home, Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny (R95 YP63) on Sunday 1st February 2026 from 4pm pausing for recital of the Rosary at 7pm.
Requiem Mass on Monday 2nd February 2026 at 12pm in the Church of the Assumption, Ballyouskil, Co. Kilkenny (R32 DH56) with burial immediately afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Kathleen Sheil (née Dunne)
24 Wolftone Court, Mountmellick, Laois
Kathleen Sheil nee Dunne of 24 Wolfe Tone Court, formerly of 1 Lord Edward Street surrounded by her loving family after a short illness.
Predeceased by her loving husband Stephen, her parents Terence and Ellen Dunne. Her infant sister Mary Imelda, infant brother Terence Michael, her brothers Tim and Peter.
Very sadly missed by her daughter Karen, daughter-in-law Debbie, daughter Elaine and her son-in-law Maurice, her son David, her sister Mary, her brother Ben and his wife Francis, her brother Noel and his wife Barbara.
Her Grandchildren, Samantha, Ger, Becky, Katelyn, Brian, Niall, Emma and her Great Granddaughter Aobha, her Nieces and Nephews, all her cousins and extended family and friends.
Reposing Moloney’s Funeral Home Monday from 4pm. Recital of The Rosary at 5.30pm. Reposing Tuesday morning from 10am. Removal at 10.45am to St. Joseph’s Church for Requiem Mass at 11am. Burial after in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Mass will be live-streamed via the parish webcam https://www.mountmellickparish.ie. Only family flowers, donations if desired to Laois Palliative Care/ Night Nurses.
Mena Bergin (née Duff)
Park, Errill, Laois
Mena Bergin (née Duff), Park, Errill, Co. Laois, January 29th. 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her parents Richard and Mary-Ellen (Duff) and her brothers and sisters Teresa, Tom, Jack and Mary.
Sadly missed and remembered with love by her heartbroken husband Peter, adored children Geraldine, Tony, Dolores and Marie, son-in-law David, daughter-in-law Ellie, Dolores’s partner Tadhg, Geraldine’s partner Ritchie, much cherished grandchildren Jack, Daniel, Ellen, Katie, Dáire, Luke and Emily, her brothers and sisters Fint, Paddy, Claire, Brigid and Elizabeth, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
Reposing at O’Sullivan’s Funeral Home, Rathdowney (Eircode R32 NY24) on Sunday evening February 1st. from 4 o’clock pausing for prayers at 7 o’clock. Removal from her residence on Monday morning to Our Lady Queen of the Universe Church, Errill arriving for Requiem Mass at 11 o’clock. Interment afterwards in St. Kieran’s Cemetery, Errill.

Sarah Delaney (née nee Mortimer)
Millmount Place, Drumcondra, Dublin/Clonaslee, Laois
The death has occurred of Sarah Delaney nee Mortimer in her 98th year of 7 Millmount Place, Drumcondra, Dublin and formerly of Tinnahinch Clonaslee and Coole, Monasterevin, Co. Kildare on 30th January 2026 in the care of Nazareth House, Nursing Home, Malahide Road, Dublin surrounded by her loving family and best friend Betty Daly.
Predeceased by her husband Daniel, her parents Elizabeth and Michael, her brothers John, James, Michael and Pat and her sisters Mary, Sr. Elizabeth Michael, Sr. Bridget, Essie and Elizabeth.
Deeply regretted by Daniel Delaney and Ailish Delaney, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, great grand nieces and great grand nephews.

GILLIGAN: Shanbally, Cappoquin and formerly of Brockra, Ballyfin, Co. Laois.
On 30th January 2026, passed unexpectedly and peacefully at WUH surrounded by his loving family. Seamus, beloved son of the late Martin and Sarah Gilligan and brother of the late Martin and Sean.
Deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary (Née O’Keeffe), sons Alan, Martin and Jamie, daughter Aisling, their respective partners Jason, Laura and Natanya, his beloved grandchildren Darcie, Tara and Lisa Leighton, Tiernan, Cameron and Khaleesi, his beloved siblings, Mary, Sadie, Theresa and Pauric and their partners, along with all his extended O’Keeffe and Gilligan family, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Kathleen Doyle (née Mealy)

Kathleen Doyle (née Mealy) of 12 Ashgrove, Tullow Rd., Carlow and formerly of Doonane Terrace, Crettyard, Co Laois, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on January 29th, 2026 at The District Hospital, Carlow.
Beloved wife of Michael, much loved mother of Thomas, Stephen, Michael and Martin, adored grandmother of Caitlinn, Leah, Brandon, Shauna, Leon, Dylan, Aoibhinn, Amelia, Jamie, Bobby, Tommy and Oisín and cherished sister of George and the late Mary, Nano, Michael, Elizabeth and Martin.
She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, sons, grandchildren, daughters-in-law Deirdre and Jessie, son-in-law Eugene, brother, sisters-in-law, aunt Dina, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives and friends.
Kathleen will repose at Carpenters Funeral Home, Shamrock Sq., Carlow (R93 C863) on Sunday February 1st from 4pm concluding with for Prayers at 7pm that evening. Removal from there on Monday morning at 10.30am to The Holy Family Church, Askea, arriving for Funeral Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in St Mary’s Cemetery, Carlow.

Maura Lawler (née Bergin)
Derrykearn, Abbeyleix, Laois
Maura died peacefully January 24th 2026. Reunited once more with her beloved parents, sisters and brothers. Much loved wife of Gerard, mother to Póilín, Geraldine (de Búrca) and John.
Adored grandma to Carolyn, Éadaoin, Gráinne, Seán, Vincent, Séamus, Hayden and Michael, and great-grandma to Liam. Remembered with love by her sisters Pat, Kathleen and Philomena and extended family.
Reposing in St. Brigid’s Church, Shanahoe, Co. Laois (R32AH90), on Friday evening on the 6th February from 5.0’clock, concluding with Rosary at 7.0’clock. Requiem Mass in St. Brigid’s Church, Shanahoe on Saturday morning the 7th February at 11.0’clock, followed by interment in St. Fintan’s cemetery, Raheen.

Tom (Santy) Maher

The death has occurred of Tom, better known as Santy Maher, 19 Church Avenue, Stradbally, Co. Laois, unexpectedly, on 29th January, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife Rose and family.
Tom will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his loving wife Rose, daughters Sylvia and Rose, sons Kenneth, Clifford, Owen, Wesley and Aidan, his adored twenty grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, sisters Winnie and Jean, brother Jim, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and a large circle of friends.
Tom will repose at his home on Saturday 31st January from 4:30pm with Recital of the Rosary at 8pm. Requiem Mass on Sunday 1st February at 11:30am in the Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally and afterwards Tom will be laid to rest in Oakvale Cemetery, Stradbally.

Fergus Dempsey, Glenbarrow, Portlaoise and formerly Springfield, Tallaght, 27th January 2026. Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Dearly loved husband to his heartbroken wife Margaret.
Loving father to Martina, Lisa and Deborah, sons in law Eddie and Phillip. Cherished grandfather to Alannah, Cían, Ryan, Brandon, Jamie, Dylan, Luke, Emma and Honey, Alannah’s partner Andre, great-grandson Miles, extended family, relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents, John and Kathleen, sister Mary, brothers Richard, Séan, Anthony and Brian. Deeply regretted by his brother Paul, sisters Joan and Anne.

Suddenly on the 28th of January. Predeceased by his parents Jerry and Joan and his sister Marian.

Lying in repose on Saturday at the chaple of Repose adjoining the Church of the Most Holy Rosary Abbeyleix from 6.30pm. to 8pm.with Prayers at 6.30. Requiem Mass on Sunday at 11am. Followed by a private family cremation.

Martin passed away peacefully in The Little Sisters of the Poor Ferrybank,Waterford,with his nieces by his side.Predeceased by his sisters Julie,Teresa, Eileen and brothers Patrick and Michael.
Martin will be greatly missed by his loving sisters Mary,Ann and Kathleen,sister in law Una and his many nieces and nephews who held him in great affection,his cousins,good neighbours and friends.
