If you suffer from the horrible affects of migraine, then there’s a useful seminar in Portlaoise this week

If you suffer from migraine and are in the Laois area, there is somewhere you need to be on Thursday …

The Migraine Association of Ireland have announced a FREE seminar on migraine in adults and children this Thursday, March 30, in the Maldron Hotel, Portlaoise. Taking place at 7pm, attendees will have the chance to hear from two expert speakers on areas such as diagnosis, treatments, medications and lifestyle changes.

As a migraine sufferer, having previously attended an information evening by The Migraine Association of Ireland, I have no hesitation in saying that I have benefited.

In my opinion, migraine is very often misunderstood and self diagnosed. It can have huge implications on people’s day to day lives and any information or help in navigating attacks, is most definitely welcome.

Did you know that migraine is recognised as a medical condition by the Department of Education allowing students to avail of extra supports and arrangements under the Reasonable Accommodation for Certificate Examinations (RACE) Scheme? (Neither did I)

Dr Muhammad Tariq

Over 500,000 people in Ireland suffer from migraine including over 100,000 children. Dr Muhammad Tariq is a Consultant Paediatrician in the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise with an interest in respiratory, allergy, migraine and sleep.

Dr Tariq was previously a Consultant Paediatrician in the UK for a number of years and he trained at King’s College London. Dr Tariq has extensive expertise and experience treating migraine and headache disorders in children and he has developed Ireland’s first GP protocol for diagnosing paediatric migraine.

The seminar will also feature an information and advice session for Adult Migraine Sufferers with Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Jane Melling.  Jane is based in the Dublin Neurological Institute in the Mater Hospital Dublin and will explain the various treatments, medications and lifestyle adaptations that often prevent or reduce migraine attacks.

If you or someone you know suffers from migraine, make the time to be there on Thursday. It’ll be worth it.
